SQL Server DBA 
Foster City , CA

Duration : 12 Months+

Rate : Competitive

Note from the Manager:

We are looking for candidates who have experience working on at least 100+ SQL servers.

(My team here manages about 800+ servers). So if the candidate has worked only on a handful of SQL servers, he/she would not be a good fit.

In addition to that, we are *NOT* looking for a production support only DBA.

We are seeking a senior DB Engineer/architect who can design, develop, and implement SQL server solutions for complex projects. We will need somebody with experience in DR setup, High-availability setup, Replication, and advanced support.

 

 

Major Job Duties and Responsibilities: 

SQL Server DBA to install/setup/deliver and support Microsoft SQL Server databases and applications. 
Provide technical expertise and hands-on support in consolidation and migration of databases to new hardware and platforms. 
Provide technical expertise in all aspects of database implementation life cycle from sizing, through capacity planning, design, and implementation. 
Physical implementation of databases, storage structures, high-availability solutions, replication, and disaster recovery solutions. 
Provide inputs in defining database standards and best practices for advanced monitoring and troubleshooting, performance tuning and automation 
Provide guidance and direction to Level-2 Production database operations team. 
Upgrade SQL2000 servers to SQL2005 and/or SQL2008. 

Experience 
Expert in design, analysis, development, implementation and administration of MS SQL server 2000 and 2005 databases. 
Expert in implementing high availability and disaster recovery solutions such as Log shipping, data replication. 
Minimum of 5 years experience working as MS SQL Server DBA supporting mission critical applications. 
Experience in SQL2008 is a big plus. 
Experience with HP Polyserve and VM virtualization technologies is a big plus. 
Experienced with DB performance monitoring, DB recovery, and DB change management. 
Experience in supporting large scale SQL deployments. 

o Verbal and written communication skills, problem solving skills, customer service 
and interpersonal skills (Required) 
o Strong ability to work independently and manage one's time (Required)
