Senior UNIX Systems Engineer,
Location: Chicago, IL  

Duration: 6 months Contract to Hire

SUMMARY:

• Provide Level III UNIX Engineering including installation, configuration and operation of all UNIX systems in a heterogeneous environment. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Focused on Engineering of UNIX/Linux systems. Creates, tests, documents and delivers repeatable support processes. Investigates documents and resolves issues escalated from Level II engineers. 
• Provides guidance, training and support for more junior team members. 
• Develop documents and delivers tools for support of UNIX/Linux systems. 
• Works closely with Lead Engineer to ensure that the UNIX/Linux environment is supportable, maintainable and reliable.
• Develop and Maintain relationships with contemporaries globally. 
• Service Support to include: liaise with Production Services to address escalated issues as required.
• Participate as required in problem management, configuration management and change management.
• Service Delivery to include: monitoring and operation of Unix servers
• Maintain technical documentation accurately depicting Standing Operating Procedures; Metrics Reporting

REQUIRED SKILLS:

• 12+ years Professional experience
• 8+ years with Unix/Linux (preferably Red Hat and/or Solaris) running natively and virtually. 
• Trend analysis for system and process problems. 
• Competency in shell scripting and at least one other common scripting language such as perl, php, or python.
• Understanding of basic TCP/IP networking concepts and troubleshooting. 
• Apache/Tomcat configuration and operation.
• Proven success designing and implementing Unix systems and services in a trading environment
• Process Improvement and Quality Methodologies
• Release Management; and Quality Assurance issues in high availability environments
• Technology Production Services/Operations in dynamic, time-critical, high-transaction-volume, and low latency environment across multiple time-zones

DESIRED SKILLS:

• Veritas Volume Replicator is a plus
• VMware a plus
• Some knowledge of EMC, HP or Hitachi Data Systems SAN technologies is a BIG plus
• CF Engine a plus
• ITIL: Service and Release Management, Incident Reporting, Problem Management, and Change Management.

EDUCATION:

 

• Bachelors Degree in Finance, Economics, Engineering, Computer Sciences or equivalent experience
